## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED CLAMATH FALLS, OREGON (LMT). AFTER 1 HOUR OF CRUISE FLIGHT THE ENGINE WAS OPERATING NORMALLY. WITHOUT WARNING THE ENGINE BEGAN TO RUN ROUGH AND LOOSE R.P.M. THE ENGINE SURGED BETWEEN 1600 AND 1700 R.P.M. THE PILOT MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING. INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE REVEALED THAT THE #5 CYLINDER EXHAUST VALVE FAILED AND DAMAGED THE #5 PISTON AND OTHER CYLINDERS AND CYLINDER COMPONENTS. REVIEW OF THE ENGINE MAINTENANCE RECORDS DID NOT INDICATE ANY ABNORMAL OR CAUSAL FACTORS. INSPECTOR JOHN R. CLARK ASKED THE AIRCRAFT OWNER TO HAVE THE MAINTENANCE PROVIDER SUBMIT A M&D REPORT, FAA FORM 8010-4. THERE WAS NO FURTHER AIRCRAFT DAMAGE AS THE RESULT OF THE INCIDENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
