## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT STATED THAT ENGINE FAILED ON FINAL APPROACH. PILOT CONDUCTED ANEMERGENCY LANDING, SHORT OF RUNWAY. A/C RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO LEFT WING, LEFT WING SPAR, HORIZONTAL STABILIZER, ELEVATOR, LANDING GEAR AND PROPELLER. ENGINE TEAR DOWN WAS CONDUCTED ON 9/9/99. RESULTS OF TEAR DOWN DID NOT REVEAL ANY OBVIOUS REASON FOR ENGINE TO STOP RUNNING ON SHORT FINAL AS REPORTED BY PILOT. FAA DID NOT CONDUCT ON-SCENE INVESTIGATION NOR DID FAA ATTEND THE ENGINE TEAR-DOWN DUE TO NO TRAVEL FUNDS AVAILABLE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DEN99LA149](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DEN99LA149), Aug 11, 1999: Air Tractor AT-402A (N402RE), Mead, CO, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to follow proper approach to landing procedures as outlined in the Airplane Flight Manual. A factor was the 6-foot tall corn stalks.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
