## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23)AN AIR CARRIER AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE GATE AND THEN RETURNED DUE TO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS. ALL PASSENGERS DEPLANED FROM THE AIRCRAFT DURING A PLANE CHANGE. WHILE STANDING IN THE JETWAY, WAITING FOR A WHEELCHAIR, AN 81 YEAR OLD PASSENGER FELL THROUGH A SPACE BETWEEN THE JETWAY AND THE AIRCRAFT TO THE PAVEMENT BELOW. A SAFETY RAILING NORMALLY REQUIRED TO PROTECT AGAINST JUST SUCH AN INCIDENT WAS NOT INSTALLED ON THE JETWAY AT THE TIME OF THE FALL.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
