THE PILOT STATED THAT HE ELECTED TO LAND AND THE AIRPLANE TOUCHED DOWN APPROXIMATELY ABEAM THE TAXIWAY ENTRANCE AT THE NORTH END OF THE AIRPORT. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE WAS GOING TO OVERRUN THE END OF THE RUNWAY AND THAT THERE WAS A DITCH OFF THE END OF THE RUNWAY SO HE, "TRIED TO LIFT THE AIRPLANE OVER THE DITCH." AFTER THE SECOND TOUCHDOWN, THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO TRACK TO THE LEFT AND THE LEFT WINGTIP CONTACTED THE TERRAIN. AT TOUCH DOWN THE PIC CLOSED THE THROTTLE AND MIXTURE CONTROLS. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY, BECAME AIRBORNE, AND TOUCHED DOWN AGAIN ON THE OTHER SIDE OF A DITCH, BREAKING OFF THE LEFT MAIN GEAR. THE LEFT GEAR WAS DRIVEN INTO THE BOTTOM OF THE LEFT WING AS THE AIRCRAFT SETTLED. AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST ON THE TAIL WHEEL, RIGHT MAIN, AND LEFT WING.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI99LA330](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI99LA330), Aug 28, 1999: Boeing Stearman E75 (N4752V), Sparta, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's decision not to use all of the available. A factor to the accident was the ditch.

## Other reports on N4752V (2)
