## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON AUGUST 28, 1999, THE PRIVATE PILOT, SEL DEPARTED MIDAY AIRPORT, CHICAGO, IL WITH A FINAL DESTINATION OF LANSING, IL ON A PART 91 FERSONAL FLIGHT. DURING CRUISE, APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES AFTER TAKE-OFF, THE PILOT EXPERIENCED AN UNCOMMANDED POWER REDUCTION. THE AIRCRAFT'S CHECKLIST PROCEDURES FAILED TO RESTORE THAT POWER LOSS. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO REACH MEIGS FIELD (CGX) FOR AN EMERGENCY LANDING. THE AIRCRAFT WAS CONTINUALLY LOOSING ALTITUDE, AND WAS DITCHED IN LAKE MICHIGAN. THE PILOT WAS RESCUED BY A BOATER IN THE AREA. NO INJURIES, NO FIRE. THE AIRCRAFT SAND IN APPROXIMATELY 25 FEET OF WATER. IT WAS RECOVERED AND POSITIONED AT MEIGS FIELD.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
