## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE FOLLOWING NARRATIVE WAS DERIVED FROM A TELEPHONE INTERVIEW OF THE PILOT. THE PILOT HAD JUST PURCHASED THE AIRCRAFT AND WAS FLYING II TO HIS HOME IN MISSOURI. THE PILOT STOPPED AT JOHNSTOWN-CAMBRIA COUNTY AIRPORT, (JST), JOHNSTOWN, PA, FOR REFUELING AND THEN DEPARTED WESTBOUND. HE CLIMBED TO AN ALTITUDE OF 10,000 FEET VFR, AND WAS IN RADIO CONTACT WITH CLEVELAND CENTER. APPROX. 5 MILES NORTHEAST OF THE CONNELLSVILLE AIRPORT, (2G3), LAMONT FURNACE, PA, HE NOTICED THAT HIS CANOPY HAD COME PARTIALLY OPENED. IN AN ATTEMPT TO SECURE THE CANOPY, THE AIRFLOW CAUGHT AND TORE THE CANOPY FROM THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT DECLARED AN EMERGENCY TO CENTER, WHICH GAVE THE PILOT IMMEDIATE VECTORS TO THE CONNELLSVILLE AIRPORT. THE PILOT LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THE CAUSE FOR THE CANOPY COMING OPEN IS UNDETERMINED DUE TO THE INABILITY TO RECOVER THE LOST PART.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
