## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON SEPTEMBER 9, 1999, AT APPROX. 1735 CDT, A NAVION, N4527K, WAS WEST BOUND, AT 2500 AGL, 2 MILES SOUTH OF THE FLYING V AIRPORT, UTICA, NEBRASKA. THE AIRPLANE EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. THE PIC ATTEMPTED TO GLIDE TO THE FLYING V AIRPORT. THE A/C LANDED HARD, ON A SLOPE, ABOUT 150 FEET SOUTH OF THE RUNWAY THRESHOLD. THE AIRPLANE THEN SLID TO A POINT WHERE THE LEFT WINGTIP WAS TOUCHING THE RUNWAY END IDENTIFIER LIGHTS. THE HARD LANDING CAUSED THE LANDING GEAR TO COLLAPSE, THE ENGINE TO COME OUT OF IT'S MOUNTS, AND THE COMPLETE TAIL SECTION TO BECOME DEFORMED. THE PIC AND A SINGLE PASSENGER REPORED NO INJURIES. SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATION BY ASI-AW, JOE HOLLIER REVEALED THAT THE ENGINE DRIVEN FUEL PUMP FAILED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI99LA340](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI99LA340), Sep 9, 1999: Navion A (N4527K), Utica, NE, substantial damage. Probable cause: the failure of the fuel pump and the misjudged touchdown point by the pilot. A factor was the high vegetation.
