## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(.19) ON SEPTEMBER 16, 1999, ABOUT 0930 CENTRAL DAYLIGHT TIME, AN AIR TRACTOR AT-502B, N5092G, REGISTERED AND OPERATED BY CLIFFORD FLYING SERVICE, OPERATING AS A 14 CFR PART 137 AERIAL APPLICATION FLIGHT, EXPERIENCED A REPORTED TOTAL LOSS OF ENGINE POWER DURING A SWATH RUN. THE PILOT MADE A FORCED LANDING TO A COTTON FIELD. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AND NO FLIGHT PLAN WAS FILED. THE AIRPLANE SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE COMMERCIAL PILOT REPORTED SERIOUS INJURIES. THE FLIGHT ORIGINATED FROM HOLLANDALE, MISSISSIPPI, ABOUT 20 MINUTES BEFORE THE ACCIDENT. THE PILOT STATED HE WAS MAKING A SWATH RUN FROM NORTH TO SOUTH AT ABOUT 10 TO 15 FEET, WHEN THE AIRPLANE EXPERIENCED A TOTAL LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. HE APPLIED FULL POWER, ENSURED THE BOOST PUMP WAS ON, AND MADE A LEFT TURN TO AVOID TREES. HE LOWERED THE FLAPS TO THE FULL DOWN POSITION. THE AIRPLANE COLLIDED WITH A COTTON FIELD, AND NOSED OVER INVERTED.(.4) THE PILOT WAS MAKING A SWATH RUN AT ABOUT 10 TO 15 FEET WHEN THE AIRPLANE EXPERIENCED A TOTAL LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. THE PILOT MADE A FORCED LANDING AND CRASHED IN A COTTON FIELD. EXAMINATION REVEALED THE P3 AIR LINE AT THE P3 FILTER HOUSING WAS DISCONNECTED, ANDTHE `B' NUT WAS NOT SAFTIED. NO DETERMINATION COULD BE MADE AS TO WHO HAD PREVIOUSLY DISCONNECTED THE P3 LINE. ## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA99LA257](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA99LA257), Sep 16, 1999: Air Tractor AT-502B (N5092G), Anguilla, MS, substantial damage. Probable cause: The P3 air line disconnected at the P3 air filter housing , and a 'B' nut not being safetied by maintenance personnel, which resulted in a total loss of engine power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
