## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT JAMES NOBLE HAD OCNTRACTED A FILM CREW TO FILM A VIDEO OF AEROBATIC MANEUVERS TO PROMOTE AIRSHOWS THAT HE WAS TO PARTICIPATE IN. WHILE PERFORMING VARIOUS AEROBATIC MANEUVERS THE AIRCRAFT CRASHED IN A FIELD APPROXIMATELY 8 MILES EAST OF IDAHO FALLS AT BLACKTAIL RD., AND BONE RD. NEAR BLCKTAIL LAKE. FROM REVIEW OF A VIDEO OF THE ACCIDENT IT APPEARS THAT WHEN COMING OUT OF A ROLL THE PILOT POSSIBLY BLACKED OUT AND LOST CONTROL OF STALLED OUT THE AIRCRAFT. AT THIS POINT THE IARCRAFT APPEARS TO GO NOSE UP AND THEM PLUNGE TO THE GROUND AND BURST INTO FLAMES. THE PILOT WAS FATALLY INJURED AND BURNED IN THE CRASH. THE AIRCRAFT WAS TOTALLY DESTROYED EXCEPT FOR THE STRUCTURAL METAL PORTION OF THE AIRFRAME, ENGINE AND SOME COMPONENTS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA99LA166](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA99LA166), Sep 18, 1999: Pitts 11 (N11PU), Iona, ID, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot-in-command's delayed recovery from a snap roll. A contributing factor was the low altitude at which the maneuver was initiated.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
