## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT DEPARTED FRANKLIN AIRPORT, VIRGINIA, (FKN) TO CONDUCT AERIAL SPRAYING WITH FULL FUEL AND FULL HOPPER. TWO HOURS INTO THE SPRAYING THE PILOT STATED HE LOOKED AT HIS WATCH AND REALIZED HE WAS ABOUT TO RUN OUT OF FUEL. THE PILOT RETURNED BACK TO FKN AIRPORT, AND WHEN THE AIRCRAFT WAS ON THE SHORT FINAL TO RUNWAY 22, THE ENGINE FAILED. PILOT TURNED THE AIRCRAFT LEFT AND LANDED IN A BRIAR PATCH CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE TO LEFT WING, BOTH MAIN LANDING GEARS, AND ONE PROP BLADE. THE NEXT DAY THE PILOT ADMITTED THAT HE RAN THE AIRCRAFT OUT OF GAS AND INSPECTORS CONFIRMED THE FUEL TANK WAS EMPTY.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
