## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AN UNCERTFICATED OPERATOR, WITHOUT A MEDICAL CERTIFICATE FLYING AN UNREGISTERED, TWO SEAT, ULTRALIGHT STYLE, EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT WITHOUT AN AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATE LANDED ON RUNWAY 21 AT ORANGE COUNTY AIRPORT, MONTGOMERY, NEW YORK. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE WAS A SELF TAUGHT PILOT WHO HAD DECIDED TO DO SOME NIGHT FLYING. HE EXPLAINED THAT DURING HIS APPROACH TO LANDING HE BECAME "MESMERIZED" BY THE LIGHTS. DUE TO THE DISTRACTION HE FAILED TO ATTEND TO HIS AIRSPEED AND LANDED VERY HARD. THE AIRCRAFT THEN BOUNCED BACK INTO THE AIR AT WHICH TIME THE OPERATOR ADDED POWER. THE AIRCRAFT WAS AIRBORNE AGAIN BRIEFLY AND THEN SANK RAPIDLY BACK TO EARTH COMING TO REST ABRUPTLY, APPROX. 50 TO THE RIGHT OF THE PREPARED SURFACE. THE LANDING GEAR AND THE NON-STRUCTURAL FIBERGLASS "FUSELAGE" WERE DAMAGED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
