## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(.4) UPON ARRIVAL AT HIS DESTINATION AIRPORT, THE PILOT ENTERED THE TRAFFIC PATTERN FOR LANDING. WHEN ENGINE POWER WAS REDUCED, THE ENGINE STARTED TO SPUTTER. THE PILOT INCREASED POWER, TURNED THE BOOST PUMP ON, AND CHANGED THE FUEL SELECTOR VALVE WITH NEGATIVE RESULTS. HE INFORMED UNICOM THAT HE WOULD BE UNABLE TO MAKE THE RUNWAY. A LOCAL HIGHWAY WAS OBSTRUCTED DUE TO VEHICLE TRAFFIC AND A FORCED LANDING WAS CONDUCTED TO A MARSHY AREA. EXAMINATION OF THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY AND ACCESSORIES DID NOT REVEAL THE CAUSE OF ENGINE ROUGHNESS OR SUBSEQUENT TOTAL LOSS OF ENGINE POWER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA99LA268](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA99LA268), Sep 25, 1999: Banting Glasair II (N55BP), River Ranch, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power for undetermined reasons, which resulted in a forced landing to non-suitable terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
