## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING HIS FIRST SUPERVISED SOLO, STUDENT COULD NOT START ENGINE. AFTER 3 (THREE) UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS USING THE APPROVED CHECKLIST PROCEDURES, HIS INSTRUCTOR RETURNED TO THE AIRCRAFT AND USED THE "FLOODED START" PROCEDURE. THE ENGINE STILL WOULD NOT START BUT DID HAVE AN ENGINE FIRE. THE FIRE CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE AND AIR BOX ASSY. BEFORE BEING EXTINGUISHED BY THE CREW. THERE WERE NO PERSONAL INJURIES. THIS OPERATOR (FLIGHT SAFETY, INT'L, FAR. 141) REPORTED HAVING 8 (EIGHT) ENGINE FIRES ON START-UP ON THIS MAKE/MODEL AIRCRAFT WITHIN THE LAST 2 YEARS. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
