## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 1999, DURING APPROACH TO ROC, THE FLIGHT CREW OF A FEDERAL EXPRESS B-727-100, N149FE, LOWERED THE LANDING GEAR. ALL THE GEAR GAVE A GREEN LIGHT EXCEPT THE NOSE. THE NOSE GEAR FREE FELL INTO POSITION AND WAS THEN CRANKED INTO THE LOCKED POSITION AND GAVE THE PROPER INDICATION. THE CREW NOTICED THAT THE HYDRAULIC FLUID QUANTITY WAS DROPPING RAPIDLY. THE AIRCRAFT REPORTED A HYDRAULIC PROBLEM TO THE TOWER AND THEN COMPLETED AN UNEVENTFUL LANDING. THE AIRCRAFT WAS TOWED TO THE RAMP WHERE MAINTENANCE FOUND THE NLG LOCK ACTUATOR HAD SUFFERED A BROKEN HOUSING AT THE ROD END OF THE ACTUATOR. THE ACTUATOR WAS REMOVED AND REPLACED IAW MAINTENANCE MANUAL 32-33-01, TESTED IAW 32-33-011-5, HYDRAULIC SYSTEM REFILLED AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS RETURNED TO SERVICE. THIS INCIDENT IS CONSIDERED CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
