## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE FLYING OVER PUGENT SOUND TOWARD UPSLOPING TERRAIN AT THE SOUTHERN END OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, THE PILOT INITIATED A CLIMB. THE A/C TRANSITIONED INTO A CLIMB AS IT PASSED OVER THE SHORELINE, BUT THE PILOT PERCEIVED THE ATHE CLIMB RATE WOULD NOT ALLOW SATISFACTORY CLEARANCE OF THE TOPS OF THE CONIFER TREES IN THE FLIGHT PATH. HE MADE A SHALLOW (30 DEGREES) LEFT HEADING CHANGE TOWARDS DOWNSLOPING TERRAIN. THE A/C PASSED THROUGH THE TOPS OF THE TREES IN A WINGS LEVEL ATTITUDE, AND THEN IMPACTED THE TERRAIN. THER E WAS NO POST CRASH FIRE AND ALL FIVE OCCUPANTS EXITED THE A/C.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA00FA001](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA00FA001), Oct 1, 1999: de Havilland DHC-2 Mark 1 (N9766Z), Port Blakely, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot-in-command's failure to maintain adequate clearance from trees/terrain. Contributing factors were rising terrain and trees.

## Other reports on N9766Z (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19930114003529I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930114003529I), Jan 14, 1993: Dhav DHC2MK1 (N9766Z), Kenmore, WA, Minor damage. Severe air turbulence after departure from lake. Returned. Extreme wind blew aircraft backwards and over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
