## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-5) ON 10/20/99, AIRCRAFT DEPARTED FROM BENTON HARBOR AIRPORT (BEH), AND ATTEMPTED TO LAND AT NILES AIRPORT (3TR). THE PILOT ABORTED THE LANDING WHEN HE NOTICED THAT HE FAILED TO PUT THE LANDING GEAR DOWN AND PROCEEDED TO BENTON HARBOR AIRPORT AND LANDED SAFELY. AFTER THE LANDING, HE DISCOVERED THAT THE TIPS OF THE PROPELLER BLADE WERE BENT AND THE NOSE GEAR STEERING ROD WAS BROKEN. DURING THE LANDING AT BENTON HARBOR AIRPORT, HE ENCOUNTERED SKIDDING AND VERY LITTLE CONTROL OF STEERING. HE COULD NOT REMEMBER WHEN AND WHERE THE DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT HAD OCCURRED. INVESTIGATION ON 10/21/99 REVEALED THAT THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED MINOR DAMAGE. PILOT WAS THE ONLY OCCUPANT AND RECEIVED NO INJURY.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
