(-23)AFTER ACCIDENT INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT REVEALED LEFT WING FUEL TANK WAS DRY. RIGHT WING FUEL TANK WAS ALMOST FULL. PILOT STATED HE WAS SWITCHING TANKS WHEN THE ENGINE QUIT. HE WAS SWITCHING FROM LEFT WING FUEL TANK TO RIGHT WING FUEL TANK. HE WAS ON FINAL APPROACH AND DID NOT HAVE TIME TO ATTEMPT TO RESTART THE ENGINE. HE LANDED IN A PASTURE LESS THAN A MILE FROM THE END OF THE RUNWAY.THE PASTURE WAS VERY ROUGH AND DAMAGE OCCURRED DURING ROLL OUT AFTER TOUCH DOWN. ALL THREE LANDING GEAR WERE BENT AND THE LEFT WING WAS WRINKLED FROM THE OUTER TIP OF THE FUSELAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA00LA004](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA00LA004), Oct 20, 1999: Thomson Vans RV-6 (N541JT), Emmett, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper fuel management, resulting in fuel starvation. A factor was the aircraft's low altitude at the time engine power was lost.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
