## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) INSTRUCTOR AND STUDENT ORIGINATED FROM MESQUITE FLIGHT TRAINING SCHOOL AND WERE SHOOTING APPROACHES AND PERFORMING TOUCH AND GO LANDINGS IN MCKINNEY (TXI). THEY THEY PROCEEDED BACK TO MESQUITE (HQZ) UNDER IFR FLIGHT WITH HOOD INSTALLED AND STUDENT IN CONTROL. AT APPROXIMATELY 3000 FOOT CRUISE, THE STUDENT STATED HE SUDDENLY HEARD THE ENGINE GO INTO AN OVERSPEED CONDITION. THE INSTRUCTOR THEN IMMEDIATELY REMOVED THE HOOD AND TOOK CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AND REQUESTED VECTORS TO ROCKWALL AIRPORT (F46). THE INSTRUCTOR DID NOT DECLARE AN EMERGENCY. THE ENGINE SEIZED AND THE INSTRUCTOR BROUGHT THE AIRCRAFT DOWN IN AN OPEN DIRT FIELD NEXT TO HWY 78 IN WYLIE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR DAMAGE TO THE AIRFRAME. WYLIE POLICE WERE NOTIFIED AND SECURED THE SIGHT UNTIL THE DALLAS POLICE AND THE FAA ARRIVED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
