## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT DEPARTED EATON AIRPORT (OIC) FOR A FLIGHT FROM NORWICH, NY TO CORTLAND, NY (N03). ON CLIMB OUT, THE AIRCRAFT HEADED SOUTH, THEN EAST OVER THE TOWN OF NORWICH, THEN WEST TOWARD CORTLAND. ACCORDING TO DEPUTY JACK PORTER, HE SAW AND HEARD THE AIRCRAFT OVERHEAD WHILE STANDING OUTSIDE THE SHERIFF OFFICE IN NORWICH, NY. HE REMEMBERS HEARING THE AIRCRAFT CUT-OUT AND WAS SURE THAT THE PILOT HAD TROUBLE. HE THOUGHT THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS RETURNING TO OIC FOR HELP. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED IN A FIELD APPROX. 12 NAUTICAL MILES WEST OF NORWICH, NY. UPON INCIDENT INVESTIGATION, THE NOSE GEAR HAD BEEN PUSHED UP AND COLLAPSED, PROP BENT WITH ENGINE COWL DAMAGE, AND EMPTY FUEL TANKS. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
