## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 11/27/99, AN IBERIA FLIGHT 6521 WAS FLYING FROM SPAIN TO PUERTO RICO WHEN A PASSSENGER ALLEGEDLY CAUSED A SMALL FIRE IN ONE OF THE LAVATORY OF THE DC-10. THE PASSENGER INVOLVED IN THE INCIDENT WAS IDENTIFIED AS JOSE RAMON RUISANCHEZ. NOBODY SAW MR. RUISANCHEZ LEAVING THE LAVATORY AFTER THE SMALL FIRE BEGAN. A PASSENGER CLOSE TO THE LAVATORY HEARD THE SMOKING DETECTOR AND ADVISED ONE OF THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT ABOUT THE FIRE ALARM. THE SMALL FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED BY THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT. THE LAVATORY WAS USED LATER FOR THE REMAINING OF THE FLIGHT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
