## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23)ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 1999 AT 0935 LOCAL, A PA-28-140, N7407J WAS DESTROYED DURING AN EMERGENCY LANDING CAUSED BY ENGINE PERFORMANCE DEGRADATION. THE PILOT LANDED ON A CLEARED FIELD AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED (100 KIAS) WITH NO FLAPS EXTENDED. THE POST-CRASH ENGINE EXMINATION REVEALED BOOST PUMP AND ENGINE DRIVEN FUEL PUMP CONTAMINATION WITH WATER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB IAD00LA008](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/IAD00LA008), Nov 28, 1999: Piper PA-28-140 (N7407J), Olean, NY, destroyed. Probable cause: the loss of engine power from water-contaminated fuel due to the pilot's inadequate preflight inspection.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
