## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 4, 1999, DURING A FLIGHT FROM PVD TO DTW AT FL350 IN SMOOTH AIR WITH NO VIBRATION, THE RIGHT HAND ENGINE FLAMED OUT OF A DC-9-41, N758NW, OPERATED BY NORTHWEST AIRLINES. A LANDING WAS ACCOMPLISHED AT BUFFALO NIAGARA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT WITH NO FURTHER INCIDENT. MAINTENANCE ARRIVED FROM DTW AND DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE-DRIVEN FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED. THE FUEL PUMP, CONTROL AND HEATER WERE CHANGED AND THE ENGINE RUN AND TRIM PERFORMED IAW 90-7100-1-9701. THE AIRCRAFT WAS RETURNED TO SERVICE. THIS INCIDENT IS CONSIDERED CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
