## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON DECEMBER 14, 1999, BEECHCRAFT B200, N8NA, SERIAL NUMBER BB-950, OWNED AND OPERATED BY NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND SPACE ADMINISTRATION, DEPARTED NASA WALLOPS ISLAND, VIRGINIA, AT 06:05 A.M. LOCAL ON A DAILY LANGLEY RESEARCH CENTER MISSION. THE AIRCRAFT TOOK OFF ON RUNWAY 04. AT APPROXIMATELY 150 FEET AGL, THE COPILOT NOTED TWO RED LIGHTS IN THE LANDING GEAR HANDLE INDICATING AN UNSAFE GEAR UP CONDITION. THE PILOT RECYCLED THE LANDING GEAR TO THE DOWN POSITION. THE NOSE AND RIGHT GEAR INDICATED DOWN, HOWEVER THE LEFT GEAR REMAINED UNCHANGED. THE CREW FOLLOWED THE EMERGENCY CHECK LIST FOR GEAR EXTENSIONS, ABORTED THEIR INTENDED MISSION, AND EXHAUSTED ALL RESOURCES FOR EXTENSION OF THE LEFT GEAR TO THE LOCKED POSITION. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED ON RUNWAY 04 AT APPROXIMATELY 07:40 A.M. LOCAL, AND ON ROLL OUT THE LEFT GEAR SETTLED BACK INTO THE WHEEL WELL. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED, AND THE CREW EXITED THE AIRCRAFT WITHOUT INCIDENT. AN ON SCENE INVESTIGATION DETERMINED MINOR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT LIMITED TO THE LEFT FLAP, LEFT GEAR WHEEL WELL AREA, AND GEAR DOORS. THE LEFT PROPELLER WAS BENT AT THE TIPS AND THE LEFT WING TIP LOWER SKIN WAS SCRAPED. THE LEFT MAIN GEAR RETRACT ACTUATOR WAS FOUND TO BE SEPARATED FROM THE GEAR ATTACHMENT. THE INVESTIGATION IS ON GOING TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE APPARENT FAILURE TO THE LANDING GEAR DOWN LOCK HOOK. AN AMENDED REPORT IS ANTICIPATED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
