## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 23, 2000, AT 0713 LOCAL, AN AIR TRAN AIRWAYS DC-9 RETURNED AND LANDED AT BUF ON RUNWAY 23 DUE TO AN UNSAFE GEAR INDICATION. THE ARFF RESPONDED AND THE AIRCRAFT TAXIED TO THE GATE WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. CONTRACT MAINTENANCE, PRIOR AVIATION, INSPECTED THE AIRCRAFT AND PREPARED IT FOR A FERRY FLIGHT TO MCO. MAINTENANCE THERE FOUND THE NOSE GEAR STRUT TO BE IMPROPERLY SERVICED. THEY PROPERLY SERVICED THE STRUT AND INSPECTED ALL ACTUATORS AND UP-LOCKS WITH NO DEFECTS FOUND. THE AIRCRAFT WAS THEN RETURNED TO SERVICE. THIS INCIDENT IS CONSIDERED CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
