## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR, BRIAN CASE, WAS GIVING INSTRUCTION TO ULTALIGHT OPERATOR JOHN LANE, IN AN AERONCA CHAMP. THE OPERATOR WANED TO GAIN SOME TAIL WHEEL EXPERIENCE, AND THUS HIRED A CERTIFICATED CFI TO GAVE HIM "DUAL" INSRUCTION. WHILE TEACHING MR. LANE HOW THE AIRCRAFT OPERATORS AT HIGH SPEED AND TAIL UP ON THE GROUND, LANE INPUT THE INCORRECT RUDDER CORRECTION. BEFORE MR. CASE COULD REGAIN CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT, THE AIRCRAFT RAN OFF OF THE RUNWAY, HIT A BURM, AND BECAME AIRBRONE. CASE ADDED FULL POWER, FLEW THE AIRCRAFT AROUND THE PATTERN AND RETURNED TO LAND. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE. THE ADMISSION, MISTAKENLY THOUGHT THE ULTRALIGHT OPERATOR HAD MORE EXPERIENCE THAN HE DID. CFI WAS STEARNLY COUNSELED THAT ULTRALIGHT OPERATORS ARE IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM REMOTELY QUALIFIED TO FLY A CERTIFICATED AIRCRAFT. THIER KNOWLEDGE BSE IS SEVERELY LACKING.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
