## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) INSTRUCTOR AND PRIVATE PILOT STUDENT WERE DOING TOUCH AND GO'S AT ARLINGTON, SD. ON THE RETURN FLIGHT TO BROOKINGS AT 1000 FEET LEVEL, THEY SIMUALTED AN ENGINE FAILURE. THE STUDENT HAD SET UP FOR A FIELD AND WHEN THE THROTTLE WAS ADVANCED THE ENGINE DID NOT RESPOND. AN OFF-AIRPORT LANDING WAS MADE IN A FIELD. THE LEFT LANDING GEAR WAS BROKEN OFF, THE LEFT WING WAS DAMAGED AND THE PROPELLER WAS BENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI00LA108](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI00LA108), Mar 31, 2000: Champion 7GCAA (N8371V), Arlington, SD, substantial damage. Probable cause: the CFI's improper use of the throttle control during a simulated loss of engine power emergency. A factor associated with the accident was the rough terrain on which the forced landing was conducted.
