(-23)IT WAS FIRST REPORTED THAT THE HEATER HAD CAUSED THE PROBLEM, (SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT). THE REPAIR STATION THAT TESTED THE HEATER FOUND NO PROBLEMS WITH THE HEATER.  THE MECHANIC THAT APPROVED THE AIRCRAFT FOR RETURN TO SERVICE REPORTED THAT THE ALTERNATOR VOLTAGE REGULATOR (MAIN/STANDBY) SWITCH HAD SHORTED AND FAILED.
