(-23) KEN SHAUMAN AND MYSELF INVESTIGATED THE FATAL AIRCRAFT ACCIDENT. FROM WITNESS REPORTS AND SITE INVESTIGATION: THE FIRST FLIGHT OF THE AIRCRAFT WITH A FRESHLY OVERHAULED ENGINE. THE QUESTION AS TO WHETHER THE AIRCRAFT DEVELOPED FULL POWER AT TAKEOFF SINCE THE TAKEOFF POINT WAS 75% DOWN THE 3300 FT. SOD STRIP. THE AIRCRAFT NEVER CLIMBED ABOVE 30FT. TURNED TO AVOID A TREE LINE, STRUCK SOME TREES AND IMPACTED IN A BEAN FIELD. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SHORTLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES, KILLING THE SOLE OCCUPANT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC00LA141](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC00LA141), May 24, 2000: Carlson Criquet (N22CA), East Palestine, OH, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The failure of the powerplant to produce adequate power for undetermined reasons, and the pilot's continued operation of the airplane with known deficiencies.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
