## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) UPON LANDING AT THE PILOT'S PRIVATE AIRSTRIP AT MILLER CREEK, ALASKA (10 MILES NE OF PORT ALSWORTH, ALASKA), N3229D, A CESSNA 180, SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE WHEN IT NOSED OVER DURING LANDING. THE COMMERCIAL PILOT, MR. JAY HAMMOND, STATED THAT AS THE AIRPLANE TOUCHED DOWN, THE LEFT LANDING GEAR LEG DUG INTO THE GROUND AND THE AIRPLANE NOSED OVER. HE ALSO DESCRIBED A TIRE-SIZED SCUFF MARK LEADING UP TO THE WRECKAGE ON THE RIGHT SIDE, AND A GOUGE IN THE DIRT LEADING UP TO THE WRECKAGE ON THE LEFT SIDE. THE LANDING GEAR STRUT WAS MISSING THE LOWER FOUR INCHES, AND THE LEFT WHEEL ASSEMBLY WAS NOT ATTACHED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC00LA072](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC00LA072), Jun 21, 2000: Cessna 180 (N3229D), Port Alsworth, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The fatigue failure of the left main landing gear leg at the main landing gear axle attachment bolt holes.

## Other reports on N3229D (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19900228014519I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900228014519I), Feb 28, 1990: Cessna 180 (N3229D), Port Alsworth, AK, Minor damage. While taxiing, wind caught a wing and ski came up on berm lifting aircraft up on one wing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
