## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON FINAL APPROACH THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO SINK, CLIPPING A FENCE POST SHORT OF THE RUNWAY WITH THE LEFT WING. THE LEFT WING WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI00LA193](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI00LA193), Jul 1, 2000: Schleicher K8B (N885D), Manchester, MI, substantial damage. Probable cause: the downdraft experienced during final approach and altitude/clearance from the fence post not being maintained by the pilot. A factor to the accident was the fence post.

## Other reports on N885D (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19780714022279A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19780714022279A), Jul 14, 1978: Schler K8B (N885D), Montpelier,Oh, OH, Substantial damage

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
