## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) OWNER/PILOT (STUDENT CERTIFICATE) WAS OPERATING A 2-SEAT ULTRALIGHT THAT HAD RECENTLY BEEN CERTIFICATED AS EXPERIMENTAL AND ISSUED AN AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATE. PILOT STATED THAT HE WEIGHED IN EXCESS OF 300 POUNDS. HIS PASSENGER WEIGHED IN EXCESS OF 200 POUNDS. USEFUL LOAD ON AIRCRAFT IS ONLY APPROXIMATELY 400 POUNDS ( NO ACTUAL WEIGHT AND BALANCE DATA AVAILABLE). PILOT ATTEMPTED AN UPSLOPE TAKEOFF IN HIGH DENSITY ALTITUDE CONDITIONS. AIRCRAFT BECAME AIRBORNE FOR BRIEF DISTANCE BUT FAILED TO CLEAR UTILITY LINES ON FAR SIDE OF ROAD WHICH CROSSED DEPARTURE END OF RUNWAY. AIRCRAFT SEVERED UTILITY LINES, STRUCK LARGE TREE AND CAME TO REST NOSE FIRST. NO INJURIES TO PILOT AND PASSENGER. POST EVENT REVIEW INDICATED OWNER/PILOT HAD NOT RECEIVED ANY FLIGHT TRAINING OR ENDORSEMENTS FROM CERTIFICATED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR. OPERATING LIMITATIONS PROHIBITED FLIGHT OPERATIONS BEYOND 25 MILES OF MONTGOMERY, NY AND RESTRICTED LANDINGS/TAKEOFFS AT MONTGOMERY, NY ONLY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC00LA186](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC00LA186), Jul 9, 2000: Helfer Flightstar II (N6057U), Greenland, NH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot-in-command's improper decision to takeoff uphill, on a short runway with 50-foot high utility wires at the end, at a high gross weight. Factors were the high weight and uphill terrain.

## Other reports on N6057U (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19990924028299I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19990924028299I), Sep 24, 1999: Amtr FLIGHTSTAR (N6057U), Montgomery, NY, Minor damage. (-23) Aircraft landed on runway 23, bounced off runway causing left main and nose wheel to depart the aircraft. Pilot state he "he never watched the airspeed."

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
