## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT WAS ATTEMPTING TAKE-OFF FROM GRASS STRIP INTO WIND IN NORTHERLY DIRECTION. FOLLOWING NORMAL RUN-UP, BEGAN TAKE OFF ROLL, WHEN AIRCRAFT BECAME AIRBORNE IT WAS CLEAR THAT THE AIRCRAFT COULD NOT MAINTAIN PROPER AIRSPEED TO CLEAR TREES AT NORTH END OF RUNWAY. AIRCRAFT HIT THE TOP OF THE TREES AND WENT OFF FIELD IN A LEFT WING STALL CONFIGURATION AND CRASHED IN THE PARKING LOT OF A WAREHOUSE ON SOUTH WASHINGTON STREET. THIS INVESTIGATION IS CLOSED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC00LA197](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC00LA197), Jul 12, 2000: Fairchild M-62C (N58741), Carthage, NY, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's improper decision to depart with obstacles ahead which exceeded the climb capability of the airplane. Factors were the grass runway, and trees at the departure end of the runway.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
