## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE BARON 58, N7271R, WAS HOLDING ON THE CENTERLINE OF THE TAXIWAY APPROACH TO THE RUNUP FOR RUNWAY 31 AT PALO ALTO AIRPORT. AT LEAST 6 A/C WERE IN THE RUNUP AREA AWAITING CLEARANCE FOR TAKEOFF. AS A PLACE OPENED IN THE RUNUP AREA, THE BARON 58 PILOT ADVANCED THE THROTTLES TO BEGIN TO MOVE INTO THE RUNUP AREA. JUST AT THAT MOMENT, A CESSNA 172, N79004, APPROACHED FROM BEHIND TO PASS HIS LEFT WING OVER THE RIGHT WING OF THE BARON 58 STRIKING THE BARON 58'S PROPELLOR ON THE RIGHT ENGINE. THE PROPELLOR BLADES ON THE RIGHT ENGINE WERE ALL BENT FORWARD. THE CESSNA'S LEFT WING SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX00LA289](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX00LA289), Jul 15, 2000: Beech 58 (N7271R), Palo Alto, CA, minor damage. Probable cause: The pilot of the other airplane's (Cessna) inadequate visual lookout and misjudged distance to the standing Beech.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
