(-23) DURING THE THIRD AND FINAL APPROACH TO RWY. 17, KINGFISHER, OK. (F92), WITH SQUALL LINE APPROACHING, A/C SUDDENLY BEGAN SINKING AND AIRSPEED DROPPED. PILOT ADDED FULL POWER AND COULD NOT STOP DESCENT. A/C IMPACTED GROUND IN LEVEL ATTITUDE APPROX. 100 FEET SHORT OF RUNWAY. PILOT SAID SQUALL LINE WAS APPROACHING WITH A FEW RAIN DROPS ON WINDSHIELD. AS THE A/C BEGAN SINKING THERE WAS HEAVY RAIN. (.4)VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS EXISTED WITH THUNDERSTORMS AND RAIN SHOWERS MOVING TOWARD THE AIRPORT. DURING THE FINAL APPROACH APPROXIMATELY 200 FEET FROM THE RUNWAY, THE AIRPLANE ENCOUNTERED A DOWNDRAFT. THE PILOT APPLIED FULL POWER; HOWEVER, IT DID NOT KEEP THE AIRPLANE FROM DESCENDING TO THE TERRAIN. THE AIRPLANE IMPACTED THE GROUND IN A LEVEL ATTITUDE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW00LA221](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW00LA221), Jul 27, 2000: Luscombe 8A (N71620), Kingfisher, OK, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain aircraft control. A factor was the downdraft weather condition.
