## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT HAD NOT FLOWN FOR THREE (3) YEARS. ANNUAL INSPECTION OF AIRFRAME/ENGINE/PROPELLER JUST COMPLETED BY MR. JOSEPH (IA) AIRCRAFT WAS ON TEST FLIGHT. ENGINE QUIT AT 2000 FEET CRASHED IN SANDPIT. INDEPTH INSPECTION OF FUEL SYSTEM REVEALED LARGE QUANTITIES OF FUEL CONTAMINATION (WATER AND FOREIGN MATERIAL). SEVERAL AD'S HAD NOT BEEN COMPLETED WITH.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC00LA223](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC00LA223), Aug 9, 2000: Cessna 150 (N51181), Bridgewater, MA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The mechanic's inadequate annual inspection, which resulted in a departure with fuel contamination. A factor was the pilot-in-command's inadequate preflight inspection.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
