## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON AUGUST 11, 2000, AT APPROXIMATELY 2000 LOCAL TIME, THE PILOT OF THIS AIRCRAFT WAS ATTEMPTING TO TAKEOFF FROM A GRAVEL AIRSTRIP 60 NAUTICAL MILES NORTH OF FAIRBANK, ALASKA ON LIME PEAK. JUST BEFORE ROTATION SPEED (35 MPH). HIS AIRCRAFT VEERED OFF TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY AND NOSED OFF. HE ALSO STATED GUSTING WINDS WERE A FACTOR. THE PILOT HAS NOT HAD A CURRENT MEDICAL SINCE NOVEMBER, 1999 AND HIS BIENNIAL FLIGHT REVIEW HAD EXPIRED ON NOVEMBER, 1997.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC00LA101](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC00LA101), Aug 12, 2000: Haskins CHALLENGER-2 (N61881), Central, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate evaluation of the winds, and his intentional attempt to takeoff into the known adverse weather. Factors associated with this accident were the gusty crosswind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
