## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23)TWO AIRCRAFT FLYING ON FORMATION COLLIDED IN THE AIR. A CESSNA 172RG WAS THE LEAD AIRCRAFT. A PITTS S1-S WAS FLYING TRAIL. THE PILOT OF THE PITTS S1-S WAS CHANGING POSITION WITH THE LEAD AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT OF THE PITTS FLEW UNDER THE CESSNA. AS THE PITTS PASSED UNDER THE CESSNA THE PROPELLER STRUCK THE VERTICAL AND RUDDER OF THE PITTS. BOTH AIRCRAFT LANDED AT FULLERTON (FUL) AIRPORT WITH NO INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX00LA315](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX00LA315), Aug 28, 2000: Cessna 172RG (N6225R), Westminister, CA, minor damage. Probable cause: The pilot of the Pitts misjudged the clearance while maneuvering under the Cessna.

## Other reports on N6225R (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19850611023939A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19850611023939A), Jun 11, 1985: Cessna 172RG (N6225R), Upland, CA, Substantial damage. Lost directional control on rollout. Struck parked aircraft and hangar. No mechanical malfunction of brakes.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
