## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT LANDED HARD AND SLIGHTLY YAWED CAUSING THE A/C TO CARTWHEEL ON THE WATER. A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR WAS THE SUN'S GLARE ON THE A/C'S DIRTY WINDSHIELD OBSCURRING THE PILOT'S VISION DURING FLARE-OUT. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE SHOULD HAVE COMMENCED A GO-AROUND WHEN HE LOST VISUAL REFERENCE WITH THE HORIZON. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC00LA113](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC00LA113), Sep 5, 2000: Stinson 108-3 (N603C), Yakutat, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's selection of an unsuitable landing area. Factors associated with the accident were the oil sprayed windshield, the sunglare, and an object in the water which the pilot did not see.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
