## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT IN COMMAND LANDED ON LAKE HOOD ON AN APPROXIMATE 120 DEGREE HEADING AND KEPT THE AIRCRAFT ON THE STEP AND COMMENCED A LEFT TURN TOWARDS THE EAST. AS THE PILOT IN COMMAND REDUCED POWER AND THE AIRCRAFT CAME OFF OF THE STEP A GUST OF WIND CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO CARTWHEEL INTO THE WATER. WIND AT THE TIME WAS REPORTED AS COMING FROM 160 DEGREES AT 17 MPH GUSTING TO 27. THE PILOT IN COMMAND, WHO WAS THE ONLY PERSON ON BOARD, ESCAPED WITHOUT ANY INJURY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC00LA129](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC00LA129), Sep 21, 2000: Aeronca 15AC (N1455H), Anchorage, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate compensation for high, gusty wind conditions during water taxi. Factors associated with the accident are high and gusty wind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
