## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ACCORDING TO WITNESSES, THE PILOT WAS LANDING IN A CROSSWIND WHEN A VERY STRONG CROSSWIND AFFECTED THE LANDING. WHILE TRYING TO COMPENSATE FOR THE STRONG GUST, THE NOSE GEAR HIT THE SIDE OF THE ASPHALT RWY AND COLLAPSED IT. AFTER THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED, THE RIGHT WING STRUCK THE GROUND BENDING THE FRONT SPAR AND ALSO BENDING AT LEAST TWO OF THE RIBS ON TEH RIGHT WING. THE ENGINE MOUNT IS BROKEN IN SEVERAL PLACES. THE PROPELLOR AND THE PROP SPINNER IS ALSO BENT. THE LOWER ENGINE COWLING IS DAMAGED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX00LA351](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX00LA351), Sep 23, 2000: Piper PA-22-150 (N2963P), North Las Vegas, NV, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate compensation for the gusty and variable crosswind conditions. Factors were the variable and gusty crosswinds.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
