## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) MR. THOMSEN WAS DOING TOUCH AND GO'S AT THE RAPID CITY REGIONAL AIRPORT (RAP). HE HAD GIVEN THE CONTROLLER A TELEPHONE NUMBER TO CALL. THEN JUST BEFORE THE LAST APPROACH HE ASKED THE CONTROLLER TO CALL THAT NUMBER AND "TELL MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS THAT I LOVE THEM VERY MUCH. MY NAME AGAIN IS BOB THOMSEN." HE THEN CRASHED THE AIRCRAFT INTO THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI01FA001](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI01FA001), Oct 3, 2000: Piper PA-44-180 (N294ND), Rapid City, SD, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: Suicide

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
