## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) N52202 DEPARTED PAINE FIELD WASHINGTON AT APPROX. 1825 LOCAL ON A SIGHSEEING FLIGHT OVER SNOQUALIME VALLEY AND ORCAS ISLAND. DURING THE CRUISE AT 2500', JUST NORTH OF CHERRY VALLEY (DUVALL, WA), A SUDDENT PROPELLOR OVERSPEED OCCURRED TO A MAXIMUM LIMIT OF THE GAUGE. PROP RPM WAS REDUCED TO SAFE RANGE AND PILOT CONTACTED ATC. ATC GAVE PILOT POSITION OF FIRST AIRFIELD (MONROE, WA). PILOT STATED THAT THE ENGINE RPM WAS STEADILY DECREASING WITHOUT MOVING THROTTLE CONTROL. AS HE APPROACHED MONROE, APPROX. 2 MILES FROM THE AIRPORT THE A/C EXPERIENCED COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE. (ENGINE STOPPED/PROPELLOR NOT WINDMILLING). A/C LANDED LONG ON RWY 25, ANOUT 300 FEET FROM THE END AND CONTINUED OFF OF THE END OF RWY INTO SWAMP.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA01LA004](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA01LA004), Oct 6, 2000: Mooney M20K (N52202), Monroe, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: Oil Pump drive gear shaft separated in shear. A collision with a tree stump during the landing roll was a factor.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
