## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) UPON LANDING THE AIRCRAFT NOSE GEAR INTER CYLINDER BROKE, CAUSING THE NOSE GEAR TO DIG INTO THE GRASS RUNWAY AND THEN FLIPPING THE AIRCRAFT ONTO THE FUSELAGE. THE INTER OR CHROME CYLINDER APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN WELDED IN THE PAST AT SOME POINT. AIRCRAFT RECORDS DID NOT INDICATE ANY REPAIR TO LANDING GEAR. CYLINDER WAS SHIPPED TO NTSB LAB FOR EXAMINATION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB IAD01LA004](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/IAD01LA004), Oct 15, 2000: Yakovlev 52 (N21CY), Berryville, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper flare, which resulted in a hard landing and separation of the nose landing gear.

## Other reports on N21CY (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19990531029739I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19990531029739I), May 31, 1999: Yaklev YAK52 (N21CY), Warrenton, VA, Minor damage. From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
