## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON OCTOBER 20, 2000, AT APPROXIMATELY 0237Z, A BEECH BE-23-24 AIRCRAFT, REGISTRATION NUMBER N7951L, CONTACTED CMH ATC, REPORTED A ROUGH RUNNING ENGINE AND REQUESTED VECTORS TO THE NEAREST AIRPORT. APPROXIMATELY 2 MINUTES LATER THE PILOT OF THE AIRCRAFT DECLARED AN EMERGENCY, STATED THAT HE WAS NOT GOING TO MAKE IT TO THE AIRPORT AND THAT HE WOULD LAND ON THE INTERSTATE. HE ALSO COMMENTED THAT THE ENGINE WAS NOT EVEN MAINTAINING 1,000 RPM. AT APPROXIMATELY 0239Z THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED DURING A FORCED LANDING ON INTERSTATE 171. THE CERTIFICATED COMMERCIAL PILOT AND TWO PASSENGERS WERE FATALLY INJURED. A THIRD PASSENGER WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC01FA021](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC01FA021), Oct 21, 2000: Beech BE-23-24 (N7951L), Kingston, OH, substantial damage, 3 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to check both fuel tanks visually during the preflight inspection. A factor in the accident was the dark night.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
