## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) CASE NO:FTW01FA014 ATTACHMENT (.4) AIRPORT PERSONNEL HEARD THE STUDENT PILOT OF THE SINGLE-ENGINE AIRPLANE DECLARE 'MAYDAY' AND INDICATE THAT HIS ENGINE WAS 'OUT.' THE AIRPLANE WRECKAGE WAS LOCATED IN 2-FOOT-DEEP WATER 9 MILES FROM THE PILOT'S DEPARTURE AIRPORT. ALL OF THE WRECKAGE WAS SUBMERGED OR PARTIALLY SUBMERGED IN SALT WATER. THE WRECKAGE PATH MEASURED APPROXIMATELY 275 FEET IN LENGTH. EXAMINATION OF THE WRECKAGE INDICATED THAT THE AIRPLANE IMPACTED THE WATER IN A NOSE DOWN ATTITUDE. NO DISCREPANCIES WERE NOTED DURING THE INVESTIGATION THAT WOULD HAVE PREVENTED NORMAL ENGINE OPERATION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW01FA014](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW01FA014), Oct 26, 2000: Cessna 150L (N6968G), Rockport, TX, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: the loss of engine power for undetermined reasons, and the pilot's subsequent failure to maintain control of the airplane during the ensuing forced landing.

Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
