## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23)PILOT WAS CONDUCTING A NIGHT VFR FLIGHT FROM SPRINGFIELD-BRANSON REGIONAL AIRPORT (SGF), SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI, TO HIS HOME BASE AT TRENTON MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (TRX), TRENTON, MISSOURI. ENCOUNTERING DETERIORATING WEATHER CONDITIONS AS HE PASSED CARROLLTON MEMORIAL AIRPORT (K26) NORTHBOUND, HE REVERSED HIS COURSE AND RETURNED TO CARROLLTON FOR A LANDING, WHERE HE FOUND THE RUNWAY LIGHTS WERE OFF. HE CONTACTED THE CARROLLTON COUNTY POLICE DISPATCHER, ON HIS CELL PHONE AND REQUESTED THEIR ASSISTANCE IN TURNING ON THE LIGHTS. WHEN THE FIRST PATROL CAR ARRIVED, HE PROCEEDED TO LAND DUE TO LOWERING CLOUD COVER. HIS LANDING WAS LONG, AND HE RAN OFF THE END OF THE RUNWAY AND FLIPPED OVER. ^PRIVACY DATA OMIT^

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI01LA031](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI01LA031), Oct 29, 2000: Cessna 172 (N8611B), Carrollton, MO, substantial damage. Probable cause: the misjudged touchdown point by the pilot. Factors were the runway lights not on, the dark night, and the plowed field.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
