## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23)DURING APPROACH THE LANDING GEAR WAS SELECTED DOWN. THE LANDING GEAR DID NOT EXTEND AND THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO GET A DOWN AND LOCKED INDICATION. THE PILOT WAS UNABLE TO GET A DOWN INDICATION AND ATTEMPTED TO RETRACT THE GEAR FOR A WATER LANDING. THE GEAR WOULD NOT MOVE FROM THE UNSAFE POSITION. THE PILOT ELECTED TO LAND THE A/C ON THE GRASS BETWEEN THE RUNWAY AND TAXIWAY., AS THE A/C WAS SLOWING IT HIT A RISE IN THE GROUND CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE A/C WITH THE WING STRIKING THE GROUND. THE GROUND IMPACT CAUSED THE SPAR TO FAIL. AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE LANDING GEAR FAILURE WILL BE CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE OPERATOR HAS BEEN NOTIFIED THE FAA WILL BE PRESENT DURING THE INVESTIGATION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA01LA034](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA01LA034), Dec 29, 2000: Grumman G-44 (N69058), Hermiston, OR, substantial damage. Probable cause: Three out of four snap rings holding the pistons for the landing gear actuators failed which resulted in the landing gear collapsing during landing. On ground collision with a berm was a factor.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
