## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) TWO TRAINING FLIGHTS (A CE-172 & A CE-152) COLLIDED WITH EACH OTHER WHILE PRACTICING MANUEVERS OVER LONG BEACH HARBOR. BOTH AIRCRAFT CRASHED INTO THE SEA, KILLING ALL ABOARD. AIRCRAFT HAVE NOT BEEN RECOVERED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX01FA101](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX01FA101), Feb 15, 2001: Cessna 172N (N4686G), Long Beach, CA, destroyed, 4 fatal. Probable cause: The failure of the flight crews of both airplanes to maintain adequate visual lookout for traffic.

## Other reports on N4686G (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19890321025069I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19890321025069I), Mar 21, 1989: Cessna 172N (N4686G), Huntington Beac, CA. Engine failed in cruise. Unable to recover. Forced landing on beach. Cause determined to be dual magneto failure.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
