## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE CONDUCTING AN OFF AIRPORT LANDING TO TRANSPORT A TRAUMA PATIENT, THE HELICOPTER WAS LANDING IN A VACANT TURNOUT. AS THE HELICOPTER CAME IN FOR A HOVER THE PIC EXECUTED A RIGHT PEDAL TURN WHICH CAUSED THE TAIL ROTOR TO HIT A TRASH CAN ENCLOSED IN A SNOW FENCE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DEN01LA084](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DEN01LA084), Apr 6, 2001: Bell 222UT (N222LF), Alcova, WY, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to maintain tail rotor clearance during a right pedal turn while hovering.

## Other reports on N222LF (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 20071127831669A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/20071127831669A), Nov 27, 2007: Bell 222UT (N222LF), Casper, WY, Substantial damage. (-23) Gust of wind during start caused main rotor blade to inflict damage to the tail boom, tail rotor drive shaft, and left horizontal fin.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
