## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON APRIL 8, 2001 AT APPROX. 1410 MDT, A SANDELL ZENITH CH200 AMATEUR BUILT AIRCRAFT WITH REGISTRATION NUMBER N49DE WAS DEMOLISHED WHEN IT IMPACTED THE GROUND SOUTHEAST OF RUNWAY 29 AT FREMONT COUNTY AIRPORT (IV6) CANON CITY, CO. THE COMMERCIAL RATED PILOT AND ONE PASSENGER WERE FATALLY INJURED IN THE EVENT. VIISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AND NO FLIGHT PLAN HAD BEEN FILED FOR THE LOCAL FLIGHT, WHICH WAS BEING CONDUCTED UNDER 14 CFR PART 91. WITNESSES ON THE GROUND STATED THAT THE WINDS WERE 30 KNOTS GUSTING TO 60 KNOTS AND THAT THE A/C APPEARED TO BE FLYING APPROX. 200 FEET AGL AND VERY SLOW ON A DOWN WIND APPROACH TO RUNWAY 29. THE A/C MADE A LEFT BANK FOR BASE AND WAS SEEN TO "SHUTTER" AND NOSE OVER INTO THE TERRAIN.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DEN01FA082](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DEN01FA082), Apr 8, 2001: Sandell Zenith CH 200 (N49DE), Canon City, CO, destroyed, 2 fatal. Probable cause: the pilot in command inadvertently allowing the airplane to stall/spin. Contributing factors were the pilot's total lack of experience in airplane make/model, and high wind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
